Hi, I’m Erin! I recently loaded all my belongings into storage, keeping only the essentials, to prepare for a year of teaching English in China. Travel has always been high on my list of priorities. Not just short vacations, but extended travel so I could actually experience life in another part of world. Like a lot of people, I let life get in the way and lived vicariously through travel blogs, books, and Pinterest. There were always excuses and reasons not to go, but that nagging voice in the back of my head kept shouting “Just GO already!” So here I am.
China was never on the top of my list of destinations. I wanted to go on safari in the African bush, hike through the Amazon, and lounge in my hammock on a tropical beach. So why China? Well, basically I saw a job posting for somewhere far away and I jumped at the opportunity. After all, with the low cost of living here I can save up enough money to do even more travelling afterwards! Or pay off student debt… but most likely more travelling.
When I say I want to experience other parts of the world, what I really mean is that I want to see natural areas in other parts of the world. So many biomes to see! I’m not very adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, and I think people are very similar anywhere you go. What really interests me is the way other cultures interact with their natural environment, and seeing plants I’ve never seen before. While I’m in China I want to learn a bit more about the country’s environmental protection plans, hike through native landscapes, and hopefully see pandas.
While I’m here I’ll be writing about my experiences living in China, local and general travel tips, environmental-type stuff, and other places I’ve traveled. If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to contact me below!
